Trinity Church of Cedar Hill Wins 2025 National Bible Quiz Championship
At the conclusion of the head-to-head quizzing in the 20-team Championship bracket, Trinity One, Spokane Valley AG (Spokane, Washington), and Cedar Park AG (Bothell, Washington) each held 15-4 records. Following the tie-breaker rules, Spokane Valley and Cedar Park quizzed first, with Trinity then defeating Spokane Valley in the final match for the title.
Trinity One was coached by John and Lori Sullivan with the team consisting of Christian Alapati, Andrew Pickrell, Aulora Sullivan, and Joshua Sullivan. Trinity Church is also home to the 2023 BQ national champions. In total, 39 teams qualified and took part in this year’s national event — with one team withdrawing just prior to the championships due to unforeseen circumstances.
Elliot described the quizzing this year, which covered the Book of Acts, as “brutally difficult” as the teams were so evenly matched.
“If you look at the teams in the Championship bracket, the top 17 teams averaged well over 100 points per match in that bracket, and you typically don’t see that,” Elliot says with obvious admiration. “The teams that finished in the bottom of the Championship bracket still had four to six wins — again, something you don’t normally see and speaks to the quality of quizzing.”
The teams rounding out the top five included Atlanta Indian Prayer Fellowship of Marietta, Georgia, at 14-5 and Hope Church of Springfield, Missouri, at 13-6 (quizzers included the teen-age coaches of the 2025 Junior Bible Quiz national champions).
Shaylee Powell of Calvary Church, Naperville, Illinois, led all individual quizzers with 2,375 points. Steve Joy of Atlanta Indian Prayer Fellowship was second with 2,290 points, followed by Nathan Nimako of Radiant Life Church, Dublin, Ohio, with 2,275 points; Leiah Gries of Cedar Park AG, 1,900 points; and Meghan Ramsey of Hope Church, 1,660 points.
Elliot, 76, says that the spiritual atmosphere during the event was also remarkable.
“The worship during the services was amazing,” Elliot says. “We saw a one-hour prayer meeting turn into a two-hour prayer meeting . . . just so many great, quality young people!”
Elliot also announced that the 64th National Bible Quiz Championship will be held June 26-July 3, 2026, at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, in Tucson, Arizona.
“We’ve been there before, and the place is drop-dead gorgeous — it is a fantastic venue!” Elliot states.
Bible Quiz is for quizzers in sixth through 12th grades. For the 2025-2026 season, teams will be quizzing over the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.
